A short clip recorded in in a “boutique” in Dakhla, Western Sahara late one night. The cheche is the Touareg head-scarf, which ranges in length from 1.5m (as shown) to multiple meters, depending on the social standing (and ability to afford the cloth!) of the wearer.
Turns out, the leak wasn’t too serious. The high-pressure hose that connected the fuel filter and fuel pump had a small tear. We patched this with rescue tape, which is advertised as the dogs b*llocks, resistant to heat, pressure, fuel, yada-yada. Let me tell you something about rescue tape. It’s utter CRAP! Less than 10km [...]
A quick night stop and off we were! The last leg of the journey to Timbuktu! Another 6am wakeup on the 14th, and we headed down the laterite track… As we reversed out of the hotel, the car crunched over a large rock… no apparent damage so we headed off.
“Early” in the morning of the 12th (we got told 8… in reality the chap arrived around 10), we got the customs formalities done (another 5000 CFA) and tried to drive to Bamako. I say tried, as at the first checkpoint we had to turn around and go back to the police station and get [...]
Well what can I say… wow! The 11th, I drove from Kiffa to the Border between Mauritania and Mali. The road was a true nightmare! Forget a road with potholes – that would have been luxury! This was a pothole where someone once had dreamt a road could be built… but never did! On some [...]
Another interesting day! I’m lying in “bed” (a foam mattress on a concrete slab) in Kiffa… a town in the far south-east of Mauritania along what’s known as the death road… a road considered reasonably dangerous, where 4 French tourists got shot not long ago… The road, and indeed the town falls within a blob [...]
So… my my what a couple of days! I’m sitting typing this on wordpress direct, while connected to the internet… that said, I’ve scheduled it to be delayed by a bit for safety reasons…
We took a rest stop between Tan Tan and Dahkla in the Western Sahara (though the Moroccan’s don’t want me to call it that and get very ticked off if you don’t refer to it as Morocco…).
7-1-2010 So it’s been a while since I was able to type a proper update! (annoying mac has no battery life) Let’s see what has happened since the first… New Year’s Eve we spent in Marrakesh, at place Jamaa El Fna. After one of the other teams paid 100 Dirhams (about £10) for a snake [...]
Just a quick picture taken off the coast while driving to Dahkla from Layoone….
